Bernd Böttiger has truly been one of the great stars of the European Resuscitation Council: he has played a major role in
its development over recent years.
After a distinguished early academic career, much of it in Heidelberg, he became Chairman and Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Operative Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Cologne.
Bernd has received many research awards in Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Anaesthesiology. Bernd brings with him profound knowledge of, and experience in, Critical Care and Emergency Medicine that underpin any valid approach to resuscitation in all its aspects. In addition, he is a tireless worker and a first-class communicator with a wide circle of friends and admirers internationally. His powerful links with other key related national and international groups has provided a boost to the influence of the ERC. He is also a very popular colleague about whom one hears nothing
but praise. There is nobody who will begrudge his outstanding successes.
